Researching experiences and understandings of molar pregnancy and choriocarcinoma.

Experiences of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is a Wellcome Trust funded project in Humanities and Social Science, based in the Department of Sociological Studies, University of Sheffield (2020-2024). The project uses qualitative research to understand patient stories of complete molar pregnancy, partial molar pregnancy, choriocarcinoma and other forms of GTD. Project findings will highlight the wider social factors shaping patient experiences of diagnosis and care, and how these impact clinical work such as monitoring and treatment. Ongoing project activities will help to raise awareness of this rare condition.

The project is led by Dr Emily Ross. I am a medical sociologist and qualitative researcher. My research interests centre on pregnancy and loss, medical technologies and healthcare.
